We have many different types of families that make up the Harvest family. One of those types are families with special needs children. I have spoken to many of these families and have heard first hand some of the challenges they face each day. Let me tell you they are courageous, funny, compassionate, resilient, brave, flexible, forgiving, generous, and so full of love. However, most people don’t get to see that side of them because they often find themselves isolated. They don’t want to isolate but because of their children’s needs they find themselves alone.

We have neighbors who have a passion for children with special needs. Not only are they passionate, they are taking action by developing a special community here in Harvest. One neighbor has started a non-profit, Lifesong, to help special needs children and their families with everyday tasks as well as help their dreams of having friends and events tailored for them a reality. Another neighbor started a private Facebook Group called “Special Kids of Harvest” where others can share pictures and stories of their special kid. These efforts are what makes #HarvestBetterTogether because now families with special needs children are able to be known by others and fight against isolation.

Meet one of our special kids: Bryson Wilson
(son of Cody and Wendie Wilson)

Bryson"Bryson was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS, half a heart) and Apert Syndrome. Both are rare (Apert more so than HLHS). He spent 164 days in ICU and was not expected to live to his first heart surgery. He has undergone 18 procedures in the first 1.5 of life. He is gbutton fed and has a trach. He is the HAPPIEST kid I have ever known. He loves to play and keep up with his brother and sister." - Wendie Wilson

Thank you Wilson family for being so real and transparent. We love having you all part of the Harvest family! Thanks for sharing about Bryson, a little hero. The joy on his face is heartwarming!
